Will a breast reduction ruin my tattoo? (Photo)

Breast reduction will not cause the tattoo to fade but may distort it depending upon its size and its placement below the inframammary fold.  Without photos, it's hard to render a realistic judgment.

Scars after a breast reduction go around the areola, down from the areaola to the inframammary fold, and often horizontally in the fold.  Depending on the size, shape, and exact location and extent of your tattoo, distortion is possible postoperatively.  It is best to discuss the scar placement and tattoo proximity with your surgeon so you know what to anticipate after surgery.

Thank you for your questions, briar_094!  Breast reduction patients are the happiest due to the relief of symptoms.  Regarding your questions, it depends on where the tattoo is.  It sounds like if it is not hidden by any aspect of your bra, you should be ok.  The incisions for your breast reduction will all be within your bra line and shouldn't be visible.

The tattoo is located under your inframammary crease so the tattoo is outside the zone of surgery but it maybe stretched depending on the degree of reduction and the technique used. Best to discuss this at a consultation with a Plastic Surgeon specialising in breast surgery, all the best.

That is a great question Briar. From the photograph that you have posted it would seems that the tattoo is under your breast crease (infra-mammary fold) so it is not likely to be cut in your surgery, however, it has the potential of distortion depending on the breast reduction technique and volume of tissue that is going to be removed. You should discuss with your surgeon which technique of breast reduction you are undergoing and how they think that this will affect your tattoo. They will be able to provide the most accurate assessment during your examination. The techniques include: 
1. Peri-areola scar - around the nipple 
2. Vertical scar 
3. Wise pattern scar - keyhole scar

I think your tattoo will be absolutely fine.  Your breast fold is above the tattoo and the skin over your ribcage doesn't tend to move with this type of surgery.  Definitely still discuss with your surgeon to ensure that your angel is safe.  All the best Kim

Assuming the tattoo is below your breast's inframammay fold, it is unlikely that breast reduction surgery will change the tattoo.  Of course, your selected plastic surgeon will be able to provide you with more specific thoughts. Best wishes.

In general reductions stay in the breast crease, that being said I have no idea of how extensive the tatto is and it’s relationship to the breast.
