Had a breast lift a month ago. Was wondering if my results are good or normal? (Photos)

Question

The scars seem wide to me, not at all in a straight line. They have also split (which I have read is fairly normal.) I am not a smoker. I want to trust my surgeon but I also wanted some other opinions. He told me to rub a wash cloth on the scars to help them heal faster, is that something you would also suggest? This is my first time experiencing this, so I’d just like to know if this is a normal thing or if the surgery could have been performed better

It is not uncommon to have an opening after a breast, keep the area dry with gauze and continue to follow up with your PS for proper wound care.

Dear gabhulk,this type of wound is not uncommon after breast lift. It is usually caused by poor blood flow. I would suggest you to consult your plastic surgeon, follow your surgeon's instructions and keep your wound clean and covered. Dear Gabhulk,
Even in the best hands, sometimes a wound will not heal optimally. It is not uncommon to have delayed wound healing.  When there is an open wound, I usually recommend antibiotic ointment... however ask your PS the best course of action.  The wounds will heal however it may take some time, and you may benefit from a scar revision down the road if there are areas that don't look perfect.  So my best advice is patience and have your PS look at the wounds if they haven't yet.  Hope this helps and good luck!

Wound healing issues can definitely occur after any major breast lift or breast reduction type surgery. The key is to continue with meticulous wound care to allow the wounds to heal. Ultimately the scars may become widened and may require a scar revision down the road. It is essential that you follow up with a well-trained board certified plastic surgeon who can guide you through this difficult time and get your wounds to heal as quickly as possible. and what you have, though undesired, is not abnormal.  The wounds will heal and when you are done healing, you can discuss with your surgeon any concerns that you may have and determine if any revisions are needed.

Without before pictures, it is difficult to determine what is “good.” It does appear as if your breasts are uplifted though which is good. As for “normal,” yes it is normal to have some scabby wound healing which eventually falls off to expose pink beneath. With time, the pigment will fill in.

Unfortunately this happens from time to time. Generally, with proper consistent wound care these wounds heal with time. I might suggest some topical antibiotics and from your pictures I would likely suggest Silver Sulfadiazine cream for a while until the wounds clean up and begin turning healthy and pink. Ask your surgeon if there is more you can do to help encourage more rapid clean-up and healing.
