I am an A cup unfortunately, and ever since middle school I always intended on getting Breast implants. My first thought was to go up 2 a full C, but now I want a D cup because I heard that if you get a C cup you will look like a B in shirts, is that true and when you get implants can you lay on them when sleeping or is there a good chance this can create rupture?

Answer: Be careful of going too big Implant sizing is very important not only in your happiness with proportionality of your breast size, but also in the long term effects on your skin and stretching that can occur. Going from an A-cup to a D-cup sounds like a big jump unless you have a significant amount of loose skin such as after massive weight loss or having children. Clothing can hide or reveal any breast size. Avoid choosing your implant size based on clothing as that can change on a daily basis. When you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon you will have measurements taken of your chest and skin thickness among other things and that will best determine what the right size implant is for you. The larger you go the more difficulty you will have after surgery. You can sleep on your stomach after surgery but of course if your implants are too big for you body that can cause some discomfort. Implants will not rupture because you sleep on your stomach. Do your homework regarding the correct sizing and make sure you discuss all your concerns with your surgeon.

Answer: Breast implants appearing smaller with clothes on Dear Nikkan, 1. Do Breast implants appear smaller with clothes on? Not much. Clothes do not exert that much uniform pressure that distorts and flattens implants. As a matter of fact, some clothes and bras make augmented breasts look MORE prominent. I would urge you to get the breast implants your present breast skin can take in AND present breast tissue can cover to avoid the shiny, tight skin round "boob" look which is soon replaced by high visibility of the implant ripples later on. A good Plastic surgeon can measure you and advise you what will work. 2. Is it "true and when you get implants can you lay on them when sleeping or is there a good chance this can create rupture"? No. It's an urban legend. I have NEVER seen an implant rupture from being hugged, sleeping on it, having vigorous sex, etc, etc. The only case of implant rupture by pressure was in a lady who in a head on car collision had her steering column come up and hit her chest. She survived. Her implants did not. So, do not worry about it. Modern implants are engineered to take a lot of compression. Certainly more you can exert in your sleep. Hope this was helpful.
