Breast implants removal with lift & small areola. What are the risks? Could I die?

To perform a true risk assessment, a full history and physical exam would need to be performed by a board certified plastic surgeon. However, if you are otherwise in good health, the risk of a fatal outcome is extraordinarily rare. In almost any case of any poor physiologic outcome, the complication is from anesthetic. As we say, in patients of otherwise good health, there is a greater risk of fatality from driving to and from the surgery than there is of fatality from the anesthetic itself. Again, while there is always a chance at a poor outcome, it is extraordinarily rare.

Hello, thank you for your question. There is always risks and hazards associated with any medical procedure. It is the responsibility of the patient to understand what these risks include. There is always a risk of death with any surgery, a minimal risk, but there is always a risk.

For removal of such a large implants there are two solutions; simple implant removal (it can be done in local anesthesia) or implant removal with lift. First option will leave you with empty, saggy breasts, while breast lift would provide symmetric, perky breasts. None of these procedures is life treathening or has significant mortality rate. You should ask your doctor to place you on some medication to help with implant related anxiety. Good luck.

Anyone can die at any time, however, elective surgery is usually very safe. I have not seen anyone die from removing implants. If you have smooth implants, they could be removed under local anesthesia as well. The capsules could not be removed nor any lift done. You survived your first surgery and probably will do just as well with the second surgery. If you are too frightened, then keep your implants.

It would be rare for someone to die during surgery to have implants removed and a lift performed. Safety is the number one priority in surgery and there are many steps that are taken to ensure this. Your surgeon will want to review your health history with you as well as any medications you take. Be sure to select an experienced board certified plastic surgeon for your procedure and have it performed at an accredited facility.

Elective cosmetic surgery is very safe these days. Most plastic surgeons use board certified anesthesiologists to administer the anesthesia, so there are tow board certified physicians in the room.
It is very rare to have a fatality during a cosmetic procedure. There are always risks in all procedures, just like there are risks in travelling by plane (very rare but crashes do happen).
If you are that afraid and just want the implants out, you may have that performed under local anesthesia. The lift usually requires anesthesia.
