Can I get a direct implant procedure without issue expanders after mastectomy?

Direct to implant reconstruction is very commonly practiced these days and is the preferred method of reconstruction of many surgeons around the country. However, it does take a team of surgeons, both the oncologic and plastic surgeon, that are familiar with the procedure. This consideration is important as incision placement and how the breast is removed will ultimately determine how the breast looks, especially in a direct to implant reconstruction. If you are not comfortable with your team of treating surgeons, you should research other plastic surgeons and oncologic surgeons in your area.

Unfortunately, you have not provided photographs or told us the type of mastectomy you are having. Depending on the amount of skin present, it may be possible to go directly to an implant without the use of tissue expander. Your plastic surgeon will have to decide this in combination with the breast cancer surgeon.

It all depends but most of the time tissue expanders are needed.
