I'm considering a breast augmentation but I'm very active in martial arts, specifically kickboxing and grappling/wrestling/jiu jitsu. I'm concerned about the possibility of rupture and also comfort while training (I also do a lot of weight lifting)...currently thinking about silicone above the muscle. Not a large increase (I'm a deflated small 34C and would probably like to go to a full C). Any opinions or advice would be very appreciated! Thank you!!

Answer: Breast augmentation whoa, I wouldn't want to get you mad. We perform breast implants all the time in high level athletes without problems. The implants are extremely durable and I have never had an implant break as the result of high impact sports. I do agree with you, however, that you should keep the implants on the small side around 300 cc's. you may have some surgeons recommend going above the muscle in your case, but I would still place them under the muscle. Good luck!

Answer: Athletes and Breast Augmentation Hello,There is a small subgroup of women who choose subglandular (above the muscle) augmentation regularly: the professional bodybuilding community. Other than those unique people, the vast majority of athletes choose partial subpectoral placement of their implants (under the muscle). Subglandular augmentation has been shown in many scientific papers to have higher risks of capsular contracture, rippling in all areas of the implant, including the central chest area, drop out, and tissue stretch. These problems get worse with time, and typically lead to unexpected and early re-operation.Implants are durable, and unlikely to rupture due to your activities. Rupture of breast implants is rarely related to physical impact, but most closely associated with age of implant.Best of luck!
