There are a number of variables that determine the correct implant size to use on a given patient. There is no direct correlation between implant volume and cup size, as this will vary from patient to patient. I instruct my patients to focus on how they want their breasts to look and avoid the anxiety over implant size and selection...that is the responsibility of an experienced surgeon.
Hello,There is no correlation between cups and implants, so my suggestion is choose another way to determine and communicate your goals. The best way is to size in the office using an unpadded bra, sizers/implants, and a few favorite tops. You can then determine what looks good in the mirror, much more important information than bra sizes. Best of luck!
Dear tishaleib22,breast implant type and sizing selection is a complicated process and requires a detailed consultation that includes a discussion of your goals, a detailed examination, and a lengthy discussion. But the decision will always start and end with the patient. When it comes to sizing, we have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements.Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If it is too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match.Of all of my breast augmentation patients, every one of them has been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. You don't want to invest time and money into a result that is either too big or too small. You should discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon and make sure that your surgeon understands your goals.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hello and thank you for your question. Thebest advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. The size, profile, and shape of theimplant is based on your desired breast size/shape, your chest wallmeasurements, and soft tissue quality. This decision shouldbe based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both youand your surgeon. Make sure you specifically lookat before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgeryperformed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The mostimportant aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommendthat you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon whocan evaluate you in person.Best wishes and good luck.Richard G. Hi tishaleib22,That is a great question, but unfortunately one that has limitations. Each manufacturer makes cup size a little different. For instance, Victoria Secret is notorious for making bras that say a larger cup size for the same woman who would get fitted at a lingerie shop. In general I ask my patients to focus on the desired look and let your plastic surgeon help you decide the right implant. If you want to experiment at home with volume changes, I will frequently refer patients to something called a "Rice Test". The Rice Test is a simple, at home activitythat helps to give you an idea of how you will look with different sized breastimplants. Breast implant volumes aremeasured in cubic centimeters (cc’s). The rice test will help you become familiar with these volumemeasurements and how they might look on your unique frame. Below, are simple instructions for making“rice sizers” for the Rice Test. Placethese sizers inside your sports bra and begin to get an idea of how your breastaugmentation will enhance your figure. To make your rice sizers: - Cuta 12 inch length of pantyhose (do not use the foot portion).- Tiea knot at one end. - Fillthe length with rice according to this ratio (.106 cups of rice, equals 25cc of silicone implant).Ex/ 250cc implant would need 1.06 cups of rice to simulate this size. I hope that help!Best,Dr. B
Cup sizes are not a good way of planning your breast augmentation, since cup sizes vary widely by bra manufacturer and there is no standard for measurement. The best way to determine the ideal implant size for you is to go to a plastic surgeon's office for an in-person assessment, where you can try sizers or have computer imaging to simulate having different implant sizes. Hope this helps!
Cup sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer so go on some complimentary consultations with experts and put implants in a bra till you see the volume on your chest that you like. Then your surgeon can choose the best shaped implant for you at that volume Dr Corbin
