Breast augmentation and a doctors note for time off work?

I plan on getting a breast augmentation within the next few months. However, I have just started a new job and do not want to get into to much trouble asking off of work too soon. Will the surgeon usually write a doctors note for the time off work needed after the surgery?

Yes, your surgeon can write you a note for work. I usually recommend my patients take about 5-7 days off of work. However, you should ask your surgeon as they may have different guidelines.

If your new job is not physically demanding, you may feel that you can return to work after several days. Doing office work, for example, will not harm your results. The main issue will be whether you feel comfortable enough.  I advise most of my patients to take one week off work, if they can do so, in order to feel good and have energy upon returning to work. If you aren't able to take off that long, you should be able to return to work sooner, although you may still feel sore and tired.I would imagine that any plastic surgeon would be happy to write a note for you. In general, it should be nonspecific, since your employer has no right to know the details of your medical conditions or treatment. For example, it might state "______ underwent a medical procedure and will be unable to work until ________."Since a breast augmentation is an elective procedure that can be done at any time, don't risk your new job for surgery.Good luck.

Your surgeon "can" but only your PS can tell you if they "will".  It's usually not a big deal.  You should ask your PS.Best,

You can always get a doctors note but not all employers will give you a sick day for aesthetic surgery. For a breast augmentation which typically needs very little downtime you may want to consider having it before a long weekend

This will depend on your surgeon and the nature of your job. Most people do not need to take much time off of work with breast augmentation surgery, but might need to have slightly lighter duty for a few weeks. Discuss this with your surgeon during the consultation.

I agree with the other posts. In general, my patients go back to work after breast augmentation in 3-5 days depending on the level of physical exertion at work. And yes, your surgeon can give you a note for work. Best wishes

If your new job involves desk work (no heavy lifting or strenuous activity), you may not need to take too much time off.   My patients are comfortable to go back to a desk job 2-3 days after surgery. Perhaps have your surgery on Thurs and be back to work Mon or Tues?  Talk to your plastic surgeon about your recovery plan.

Yes, I always take care of the paperwork the patient needs, but usually you don't need much time off work with an augmentation since we control your pain.

Yes, this type of “paperwork” is routinely performed.  These types of letters can be written in a “nonspecific” fashion without necessarily mentioning the type of procedure performed. Best wishes.
