I have had a successful BA last year and the surgeon said all was fine. Prior to surgery my blood work showed abnormal platelet function but he was not concerned. I have numerous surgeries I want, including a BBL. Is this going to be an issue, is there anything I can do?
Answer: Abnormal lab and surgery Dear jazzyaussie, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. You will need to get a clearance from your doctor prior to surgery. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Is a BBL/other surgeries an issue if I had abnormal platelets? Hello @jazzyaussie thank you for your question. Each surgeon has his or her own limit on what platelet count he or she is comfortable operating with. If the platelet count is too low, a lot of bleeding may occur and you would need a hematologist's approval. In that sense it is more up to the hematologist than the plastic surgeon is you want to have elective surgery. For a proper assessment I suggest you consult one or several board certified plastic surgeon for more information and options. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD FACS

Answer: Brazilian Butt Lift Granted you have been given medical clearance and properly assessed for anticoagulant use perioperatively, you may be eligible for a brazilian butt lift. If you are a good candidate (less than 5L of fat) for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), the optimal outcomes are achieved with: 1) use of VASER liposuction to harvest the fat, 2) a closed looped system such as Puregraft to process the fat, and 3) strategic micro-packet transplant technique. These three processes have demonstrated over 95% fat graft take. This means that your results will be stable as long as you maintain your weight. As an official VASER trainer, I am routinely referred unhappy BBL patients. One of the most common reasons for disgruntled BBL patients is that patients are not able to accurately communicate their desired buttocks goals to their surgeons. A buttocks assessment tool can be an invaluable tool to communicate to your surgeon the exact buttocks size and shape you are desiring. A Skype or FaceTime consultation with a BBL specialist can help you get an accurate recommendation and pricing. Respectfully, Arian Mowlavi MD,FACS Realself 100 Hall of Fame Inductee

Answer: Abnormal platelets It’s up to each individual surgeon to make their decisions on who is or isn’t an appropriate candidate based on whatever criteria they choose to use. If you haven’t done so already I suggest having a few in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons who have extensive experience with this procedure. FYI delivering consistent high-quality liposuction and fat transfer results is more difficult than people believe. Choosing the most talented and experienced plastic surgeon for this procedure minimizes the chance of having undesirable outcomes that can be permanent and irreversible. Choose a provider based on having multiple in person consultations. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
