Pubic area swollen & sore after tummy tuck

Question

Is there recommended treatment to reduce pain and swelling in the pubic area after tummy tuck. I'm 3 days post op. Not feeling too bad other than in this area. Had breast. Drains removed today but in my nervousness forgot to mention the pain and swollen pubic area. See my surgeon again in 3 days to take out tummy drains.

Thank you for your question.This is fairly common after a  tummy tuck. The binder or compression garments push the swelling out the belly and in to that area.  It is hard to get compression on that area, this will continue to go down. The problem is if you wear a girdle or compression that is too tight, it can affect the blood supply to the belly as it is healing. If you can rest as much as possible for the next couple days, the pain should decrease after the drains come out. Good luck with recovery.

Dear Dreams67,Thank you for your question. Swelling tends to move with gravity. That being said, it is very common to have swelling and soreness in the pubic area after a tummy tuck procedure. If you are concerned, it is best to follow up with your operating surgeon.

Thank you for your question. You should expect to have swelling for three to six months following tummy tuck surgery. Use of a properly fitted compression garment will help decrease the length and severity of the post-operative swelling. As the swelling decreases, the contour of your pubic region, abdomen, and flanks will dramatically improve. Please follow your plastic surgeons specific advice regarding your level of physical activity. Hope this helps and good luck with your recovery.

Swelling is common and expected in this phase of recovery.  Check to make sure your binder is not too tight.  I encourage you to also follow up with your surgeon as she/he is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery.

This is not unusual after surgery of this type, especially with compressing garments like an abdminal binder. The swelling will slowly resolve over the next 3-4 weeks.
