Zit or infection due to restylane (photo)

Question

One week ago I got restylane under the eyes, 3 days later I developed what I believed to be a deep zit, I have gotten them there before but not that deep. It is painful/pressure like a cystic zit but I'm afraid it is an infection. I am not home for another 6 days, do you think I'll be ok till then and what does it look like to you?

Thank you for sharing your question. The bump appears to be a pimple. The area around it is inflamed and the location is a little lower than where the filler was probably injected. It might be a good idea to use warm compresses and start antibiotics. Discuss your problem with your injecting doctor. Good luck,

I would recommend that you call your injector today.  You should discuss whether an oral antibiotic might be indicated.  If the problem were to persist, you could consider an injection of hyaluronidase to dissolve the Restylane.  Make sure that you are seeing an experienced doctor, preferably a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon.Best,Dr. Ort

I would be surprised if this bump was related to Restylane injections under the eyes, especially since it occurred, as you said, several days later.  Most likely this is a "pimple" and it will go away on its own over time.  However, because it is hard to be sure, I would suggest going to see a board-certified dermatologist for an evaluation, and if it is a large pimple, you might want to get it injected to make it go down.
