I was injected w/ Restylane Friday in tear troughs with beautiful results... Sunday I began having this small bulge of swelling under the right eye and is still there now. As you can see there is a bruise, but not where the swelling is. Was I touching it too much? Did I do too much? Is it one of those that "happen" in some patients & I'll now have an under eye bag? Does it look like something that is very common and should be gone in a few days? Would love to have my beautiful result back :)

Answer: "Tincture of Time" Usually, swelling like this will occur immediately after injection of any hyaluronic acid filler, such as Restylane. I usually tell my patients, "It looks great right now, but by the time you drive home and look at yourself in the mirror, don't be surprised if it looks a lot more swollen." The fact that yours did this two days later is a little unusual and the presence of a bruise suggests that maybe a blood vessel was damaged (not usually a big deal; happens all the time). Injury to tiny blood vessels happens frequently and bruises are more rare. If you were touching the area a lot, then maybe you caused some additional bleeding under the skin. My advice is to give it a full two weeks from the day of the injection, and if it's still swollen, make an appointment with your injector. Most likely, in that time, it will have gone down. In medical school, we were often told to prescribe "tincture of time." That's what you need right now: 2 weeks of waiting. During that time, you may want to apply arnica gel or cream to the area, as that may help take down the swelling a little.

Answer: Swelling after restylane Don't worry as swelling after restylane is common and in most cases resolves. If you have some noticeable bruising on the same side it can cause increased swelling in the adjacent area to the actual bruise. Gravity will cause the fluid to pool in the lowest area. This may take a couple of weeks to fully resolve so try to hold off on dissolving the filler. If you liked it the first couple of days I think you have an excellent chance of liking it in the end. Best of luck!
