I'm sorry that you've had negative results. This area is definitely an area to use caution in injecting Botox. The neurotoxin effects will lessen and likely go away in 3-4 months. Best of luck.
Dependent upon placement and injector technique, Botox in the peri-oral region, or around the mouth can be tricky. Remember it's only temporary and the product will wear off. There are several muscles that cause our mouth to purse, smile, turn down, etc., and if it's not done precisely, you can have some asymmetry or be unable to use your mouth as you normally would.
Fortunately, Botox is temporary and if you do not like how your mouth looks, then your normal movement will return in around 3-5 months from the time of injection. Effects around the lower face tend to go away faster, especially if you use the muscles in this area a lot. When applied appropriately around the chin, Botox can vastly improve scowling and frown lines. However, depending on your particular peri-oral anatomy, especially if you have a broad smile, you may have not been a good candidate for certain Botox injections to the chin and lower lip regions. Hang in there...things will be back to normal soon.
If it has been over a week and you are still concerned about the results, I would see your botox injector. You may need touch up botox to make things move more evenly. Is this your first time receiving botox around the mouth? If so, it takes your mouth time to get used to botox, and the funny feeling may pass over the next few weeks. Regardless, the effects of the botox will be gone in a few months. Even in good hands, people either love or hate botox around their lips. You may find that it is a place you avoid in the future.
I would recommend you discuss your concerns with your injecting physician in person. In the area around the mouth, Botox must be administered very carefully due to the variety of movements required for talking, chewing, etc. That being said, Botox can give some very nice results when done by a qualified injector. You will want to wait at least 2 weeks after your injection to make sure the Botox has reached full effect. At that time, your injector can assess the situation. It may be a touch up injection will help things look better. In the worst case scenario, you will have to wait for the Botox to wear off, but you will return to normal.
There is little margin for error when injecting Botox around the mouth. Done right, it can help the downturned corners of the mouth, the upper lip lines (smokers lines), and partially help the marionette lines. But if not done properly, you can end up with trouble drinking or sipping, and have an awkward smile. It all has to do with proper placement, proper mixing of the Botox, and proper dosing. Fortunately, the problems you are having will be limited to the duration of the Botox, which is 3-4 months.
Most likely the Botox was done to treat the turned down appearance of the corners of yur mouth or else to treat the orange peel effect on your chin. These injections are tricky to do and it is easy to get asymetry of your mouth when you talk. I personally have my nurse treat these areas on me and sometimes, I get the side effects that you have described. However, there is no other treatment for these areas and I accept the risk of the complications. The weird appearance will gradually wear off. If you are unwilling to accept the possiblity of the weird appearance, you should never have injections in those areas any more.
First, avoid having Botox, Dysport or Xeomin injected in that amount to that area in the future. Second, start consciously trying to contract the muscles in the area...this causes the neuro-muscular junctions to form more quickly easing the effects of the Botox.
When things like this happen, I like to say, "thank goodness Botox isn't permanent". Botox around the mouth is very tricky, and unlike other areas that aren't affected that much by 1 or 2 additional units, the mouth area can be. Luckily, the mouth area does move a lot and your Botox may wear off quicker than in other areas. Botox lasts about 3-4 months, so it will go way. There's nothing you can do in the meatime, but just wait.
