I was recently diagnosed with type 1 at the age of 29. My A1C has been 6.4 for the pass 6 months (checked twice ) and remains the same. I’ve contacted Drs in Colombia and Dominican Republic who have turned me down because of it. So can someone with type 1 diabetes get a mommy makeover ?

Answer: Medically cleared I would consider doing a mommy makeover once you have been cleared by your medical physician. I would also this is stages. I would begin from the top usually the breasts and work my way down usually the tummy. Unfortunately, you have not provided photographs or told us your bra size. I cannot give you a complete answer without further information. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Yes Type one diabetes can make you a higher risk for wound healing and infection. An A1 C less 6.5 is best for wound healing. I would recommend you see an endocrinologist and have them guide you for controlling your blood sugars after surgery. I would recommend having a caretaker who is very comfortable monitoring your blood sugars, and knows how to treat hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia after surgery. It is also important not only before surgery but after surgery that you maintain strict blood sugar control. Try to determine what type of diet will keep your blood sugars level and without great spikes. If you are going to have a mommy makeover, I would recommend you have it in the states because you should have monitoring while you’re healing. Traveling to the Dominican Republic or Colombia puts you at increased risk for deep venous, thrombosis pulmonary embolism and wound healing issues.
