Can you get Sculptra over hip implants?

Question

I’ve gotten hip implants and unfortunately they are very hard and unnatural feeling and the implants also leave an outline. I can visibly see the implant on my left side. Is it possible to inject Sculptra around the area to add more “fat” there to conceal the implant outline more? Also, is it possible to place the Sculptra above the hip implant (hip implant was placed in the fascia) to add more cushion to make my hips feel softer and less hard and unnatural?

Dear Ava95, Unfortunately I would not advise Sculptra to create a bolster over your hip implant. It will not create soft fatty tissue for you, just stronger collagen which will not be sufficient to be a bolster. Also it might not be a good idea medically to inject Scuptra nor other fillers near a hip implant. Speak with your orthopedic surgeon to ask what methods would be safe to create a bolster eg fat transfer or a tissue flap. You should be able to add sculptra even after having had implants. Sculptra feels more natural and should improve what you are describing. While typically all this should be fine, be sure to get it checked out by your doctor to confirm that you are a candidate for the procedure!

Sculptra is a fantastic product to treat the hip dip. However, you cannot inject Sculptra over the implant to conceal it. I would suggest you have a surgeon examine the implant and see if they can correct it. If they remove it, Sculptra could be used in the future. Best, Dr. Green

Dear ava95,
Thanks for your interest in the use of Sculptra. This is a biologic molecule injection with the purpose of collagen formation and not fat formation. It firms the tissues rather than adds volume so it would not be helpful for your concerns. Such an injectable also has the small risk of infection and I would recommend against injecting it adjacent to a hip implant.
  
Your best option, particularly if there is a functional or exposure concern is a cushion of vascularized tissue called a flap to camouflage and further protect the hip prosthetic. 
  
Flap surgery is an advanced technique and requires specialized training.  Please consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Orthopedic Surgeon skilled in such reconstructive procedures.
