I had ThermiTight & Lipo under chin 9 days ago & was told to wear chin strap for 48hrs but thinking that's not enough? (Photo)

Compression applied after liposuction or ThermiTight should not be too tight and should apply an even pressure so that the elastic doesn't fold over and dig in the skin. Compression can help reduce swelling and minimize bruising but can't prevent it. In my NYC practice, I recommend wearing the garment for two days and nights minimum, after ThermiTight and then just nightly for two weeks. There are differences, though, from procedure to procedure and some patients need to wear it more regularly for a longer period. These are excellent questions and the short answer is that there have been no controlled clinical trials upon which an absolute recommendation can be given. The actual impact of wearing the chin strap for the first few days to a week on the final procedure results (which typically come in 6-9 months later) has itself not fully been explored. Each physician typically has his or her own thoughts on the matter. At my practice, I recommend wearing the chin strap at a firm but not uncomfortable tightness level around the clock for 48 hours followed by 7-10 days of nightly wear.

Thank you for your important question Marci. Each surgeon has his / her own recommendation regarding how long to wear the chin strap. In our office we suggest as long as you can up to about a week to 10 days. If you need to go to work on the third day after the procedure, then just wear the chin strap when at home and when sleeping. If you can stay at home for the week I suggest to my patients to wear it all week except when running an errand. This will help prevent the swelling from accumulating under your chin.Judging from your photo you may wish to wear the strap when at home in the evenings and also when sleeping just for a few more days.  Your neck looks great for 9 days ! Keep up the good healing ! Dr. PetropoulosBoston's North Shore

I always recommend my patients to wear the chin strap for the first 24 hours. After this, the recommendation is to wear nightly for the next 10 days. Hope this helps!

Hi Marci,When we first started with Thermi several years ago (in the beginning) we thought 1-2 days was enough for around the clock and then followed by night time (12 hours a day) for about a week. However, this was for Thermi alone. Liposuction causes much more swelling, and it causes bruising, which Thermi does not. This was one of the reasons, I designed and developed all these clinical protocols as Medical Director and Chairman of the Clinical Advisory Council of Thermi.So when you have both lipo and Thermi, of course, it will take longer. So it is natural to use the chin strap until the swelling begins to subside, often 7 days and sometimes 10.  In our office, we also use Endermologie, which GREATLY reduces swelling, speeds healing and improves comfort.
