Heavy eyebrow feeling - should I get Botox? (Photo)

Question

My eyebrows feel heavy above my eyes. I can't remember not feeling it, but I only started noticing in the last 2 or 3 years. When I completely relax my face I feel like my eyebrows are pushing down on my eyelids, and my eyes aren't fully open. I am most comfortable when I raise my eyebrows slightly, and I think I almost always do this, which makes my forehead muscles tired throughout the day. It's starting to bother me more, and I'm wondering if it's something that's easily fixed.

In your photo you do not appear to be a candidate for eyelid surgery at this point--possibly in another decade or so. In the meantime, you may try Botox in the crow's feet to give the appearance of a wider eye, and to raise your brows and upper lids.

Botox around the eyes lifts brows and weakens the muscles that pulls them down. Studies show that starting at 24 units is the way to go.

Botox can be used to help heavy eyebrows. A small amount is used on the root of the nose (procerus) and the brow depressor (at the lateral eyebrows). This helps elevate the brow.I would be very careful if anyone recommends treatment of the forehead, as this can make the eyebrows feel heavier.If you would like to correct the eyelids, a blepharoplasty (removal of excess skin) can be performed very easily.

Based on your 1st photograph, there is nothing abnormal about the shape of your eyebrows.  Having said that, if you feel that you would like them to be elevated somewhat, Botox is a simple way of trying to elevate them somewhat.  You should not expect that they will raised as much is you are raising it in the 2nd picture.

I recommend that you see an eye doctor and have your vision checked.  If you are raising your brows purely out of habit, and this is making your forehead "tired", then Botox is helpful.  But if you require keeping your brows raised in order to see comfortably, then, Botox is not a good idea, in the forehead, specifically.Be well.

Hello Violet,If you currently feel that your eyebrows are heavy and you are constantly using your forehead muscle (frontalis) to pull them up, I would be very hesitant to have Botox there.  It is possible to immobilize part of the forehead and be ok but make sure you see an experienced injector.  It is important to realize the using Botox for the forehead is not going to raise up your eyebrows.  There is a way to raise the outer corners of the eyebrow up a few millimeters when injected just below the eyebrow.  All of this can be discussed with you when you see an experienced injector in consultation.  I hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks for your question, Violet.  It is possible that you could lift your eyebrows, especially laterally, with some well placed injections of Botox.  Find a well trained and experienced physician injector in your area with whom you can consult to get the results you are looking for. Best of luck!

Yes, a skilled injector can easily get 1-2 mm of brow lift with Botox.  If you are constantly raising your brows to get the look you desire, you might be creating forehead lines.  I would recommend a consultation for Botox brow lift.

Botox can give a subtle eyebrow lift if placed below the eyebrow medially and laterally. This may be enough to relieve the feeling of heaviness, but not enough to elevate it as in the 2nd picture. You need to see a plastic surgeon who also has experience in eyelid ptosis as this is one of the things that can give the feeling you describe and cannot be evaluated by the picture available.
