I've chewed on my right side for most of my life because of a missing tooth on the left. I've now replace the tooth. I'm 60 years old. When I smile or open my mouth wide my lip goes down farther on the left than the right. Will botox fix this. What side of my face would it be injected in? The whole right side of my face has more muscle than the left. This crooked mouth happened after I had the left tooth replaced and started chewing on that side
Answer: Will botox fix my crooked smile It is impossible to determine exactly what your problem is from two static photos. It really requires your being observed in real time as you animate. It is usually possible to make small alterations with injectable botox and fillers in small amounts once the nature of the asymmetry is understood. Large corrections require surgical intervention.

Answer: One side is larger than the other--help! When you have one side of your face that is larger than another it is possible that you had something called hemifacial microsomia. This is usually not a big problem and simply means that part of your face grew more than the other. You may also have muscle growth from chewing on one side more than the other, asymmetry due to a nerve injury, or asymmetry due to prior dental problems. Regardless, it is certainly the case that I would expect us to be able to improve things with the judicious use of Botox, fillers and other treatments.Best from Boston, Dr. Onir

Answer: Botox question Allowing any physician to try to correct your asymmetric smile will most likely result in more problems than positives. I am sure you have never been told that you have a crooked smile as this is part of your persona. I personally believe botox will do wonders for your facial wrinkles however. Good luck from New York City

Answer: Mouth and Botox Changes with dentition may bring visible changes in our faces. Extraction of a single molar tooth may cause a visible cheek "sinking" . Our facial asymmetries are the results of many factors. Preferential chewing on one side will change, with time, the outline on the jaw and differences in the appearance of the naso-labial folds. Your changes, however, do not look very typical. You see similar asymmetry in some following Bell's palsy or a side effect of unfortunate placement of Botox. Ye, it can be corrected with Botox but it requires some experience and knowledge of the interactions between muscles and their opposites. Good luck!

Answer: Crooked mouth It is possible that botox could improve the crooked smile but make sure that you go to a doctor who is well versed in this type of treatment. The anatomy here is very intricate and a mistake could end up with a weird looking mouth. You might wait for a while and start chewing on the left now, gradually building up the left side. It might take a few months to notice the difference but at least it will save you the expense or risk. We're all a bit asymmetrical so it is also possible that the new tooth has made you look at yourself in a bit more detail than usual.
