Had breast aug 6/5, is it okay to take Benadryl or Zyrtec?

Question

Ive been having random episodes of hives and occasional swelling of my lips and sometimes my fingers since a few weeks prior to my BA. My surgeon told me to take Benadryl and as long as i didn’t have any hives present the day of my surgery i should be fine. I had my breast aug on 6/5. But everyday since i have had the same hives ( i know it is not related to any of the medications or materials used for surgery) . Is it okay that i take Benadryl or Zyrtec ? What affects could this have?

The best course of action would be to consult directly with your surgeon. Although there is no reason not to take these medications, it would still be best to check with your surgeon as he/she might have a protocol regarding post-op medication.

Thank you for your question.I see no reason why you wouldn’t be able to take either though I would avoid taking at same time as a prescription pain medication if you are still requiring for post operative pain.  Certainly check with your plastic surgeon if you have more concerns.
