I had my breast augmentation procedure 7 weeks ago. Everything has healed well and I have had no problems! I have resumed all activity except for chest exercises. I tried a push-up and it felt uncomfortable, but not necessarily painful. Is this normal, and if the slight discomfort can be tolerated, can I continue to do chest exercises like push ups? Or should I be waiting until I feel no discomfort at all? I do not want to risk ruining the results I have gotten from my procedure

Answer: How long to wait to perform chest exercises after breast augmentation Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Each surgeon will have their own recommendation based on the details of your procedure and recovery, so best to ask your doctor for the best advice. After 6 weeks I allow patients to start upper body exercises, but listen to your body, if the exercise causes pain, soreness, irritation, or swelling, best to allow more time to pass for your results to mature further. Hope this helps.

Answer: Breast Augmentation/Breast Implants/Anatomic Gummy Bear Implants/ Silicone Implants/Breast Implant Revision I appreciate your question. I would recommend that you discuss this question with your surgeon as every surgeon has their own respective post op protocol for his/her patients. Your surgeon is your best resource as he/she is most familiar with your medical history and how you are healing at this time. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery. Best of luck! Dr. Schwartz Board Certified Plastic Surgeon #RealSelf100Surgeon

Answer: After breast augmentation: When can I perform chest exercises? I advise my patients that they can start upper body weights and exercises as early as 5 to 6 weeks and that they should listen to their body regarding their level of comfort. I have a couple of triple crown body builders who started lifting weights at 6 weeks. In two weeks they returned to their original workout. It's always a good idea to check with your surgeon about his or her protocol. For more information on this and similar topics, I recommend a plastic surgery Q&A book like "The Scoop On Breasts: A Plastic Surgeon Busts the Myths."
