Muscle fiber tear during breast massage? I'm 5 weeks post op. (photo)

This not an uncommon complaint.  Based on your description, it sounds like your massage activity may have torn the scar tissue around your implant. From the pictures, the implants seem symmetric, and it is probably OK to watch and see if the discomfort resolves.  If you have continued concerns, you should seek in person consultation.

Hello,Implant massage is unnecessary for normal healing, and does not prevent or treat malposition or capsular contracture. It is not normal, and you should discontinue any message going forward. It is unknown why you heard a pop, but as you might imagine, anything that causes this sort of thing can't be good. Best of luck.

but as long as one mound is not getting larger with pain or infected, all symptoms should improve with time and healing.  Your mounds look level in the upper poles so it looks like this was a good thing.  In the absence of volume changes of the mounds, I would not worry at all.

Pain in breast following massage after surgery.   Thanks so much for your question. Likely what happened was some tissue surrounding the implant did tear. It probably wasn’t muscle as much as fresh scar tissue that had formed over the previous five weeks. It’s normal to have pain after something like this and it will slowly resolve. I would advise anti-inflammatories and ice unless your surgeon is telling you something otherwise. Give things some time it will get better. 

Thank you for your question and your photo with the precise location of the pain.  Both breasts appear to be similar in size so you do not have a significant amount of swelling and there is little to no bruising at the area in your photo so a hematoma, a pocket of blood around the implant is unlikely. There are a number of possibilities for the problem you describe.  : A popping or tearing of a deep suture: A possible tear of the forming capsule that surrounds the implant shortly after augmentation: A possible tear of the muscle and/or fascia along the base of the breast.  All of these can cause the type of pain you describe.  Fortunately, all of these a self-limiting and usually resolve with conservative treatment.  Wearing a supportive bra, ice, and if your plastic surgeon allows, taking a NSAID such as ibuprofen or naproxen can help decrease the inflammation and lessen the pain.  This may take a week or two to resolve.Most importantly, keep in touch with your plastic surgeon and provide them regular updates on your progress.  Hope you get better soon.
