I've had three FUTs and two FUEs ultimately causing depletion of my donor area. I have an unusual amount of thick hair on my arms and I wanted to know if it would be a bad idea to have my arm hairs transplanted into my liner scar (BHT)?
Answer: Hair Transplants Hello, and thank you for your question. Yes, you can use body hair if your donor area is not viable. On the body, the door area usually includes the beard or chest hair, but is not recommended as the best option. Consult with an experienced hair restoration surgeon for a complete range of options that are appropriate for your situation. Gary Linkov, MD Hair Specialist Manhattan

Answer: USE OF BODY HAIR FOR FUE Typically, the use of body hair is not recommended for FUE for the following reasons: The hair from the body is thinners and does not grow as long and the scars from the extraction would be more visible if the donor site is on the body. Finally, If the scar tissue at the recipient site is thick, the graft may not take very well. However, since you are talking about a small area covering the scar from the BHT, you can have the donor follicles extracted from discrete areas on your arm and if the density of hair on your arm is thick enough, it could hide any visible donor site scars. I think it is worth a try.

Answer: Use of body hair into Strip (FUT) scars I have completed multiple successful FUE procedures placing mainly FUE grafts from the beard into strip scars. Depending on the length and width of the scar(s), this can be complete in one session. The graft take is usually good. With thicker scars, I often will use a small FUE punch to punch out the FUT scar and then place grafts into those punched out areas. Body hair such as from the arm or chest is also an acceptable area to get donor hair from. Also consider Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) in addition to the placement of grafts into the scar(s) to get optimal results.
