I want to get Coolsculpting for my lower abdomen. How many applicators will I need? (photo)

CoolSculpting is a great, FDA-approved treatment for fat reduction of the abdomen. Based on your question and photo, I think that you are an excellent candidate for Coolsculpting. Patients in our office have seen an average fat reduction of 20-25% with each treatment. Depending on the patient's body composition and outcome goals, it may take more than one treatment to achieve optimal results. It takes 3 months to see the final results. The results are long-lasting as long as you maintain a stable healthy lifestyle. Based on your question and photos, I would say your are a great candidate for CoolSculpting. The number of treatments all depends on the amount of improvement you are looking for.  I find that most people need at least 2 treatments to get the results they want. I recommend you schedule an in person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your aesthetic goals.

Hello and thanks for your question and pictures. You will need 2 standard size applicators to treat your lower abdomen. If your area of concern is what you outlined in your pictures, then you may get a better result using 4 applicators to cover that entire area. You will need an in-person consultation and evaluation to determine an accurate treatment plan for you. Remember, the CoolSculpting device is just a tool which can produce different results in different hands. Thanks for your question! You will need two applicators to treat your lower abdomen.  However, the size of the applicator depends on how much of your flanks you would like to treat. The small applicators will treat your lower abdomen only. But sometimes, and we can only tell by examining you in person, the larger applicators will pull in some of your lower flanks, or love handles.

Although you feel the lower abdomen is one bulge, looking at your photo you can tell that, as in most people, there is a slight depression in the midline. If the whole area is treated, that depression will become more noticeable. It is therefore advisable for most patients to treat with 2 applications-one on each side of the midline. As far as who does it, usually a nurse or a technician will do the treatment. They are supposed to be trained and have a certificate.  Surgeons don't usually do it. 

Thank you for your question. For Coolsculpting, I do recommend an in person assessment. However, if you are just wanting to target the lower abdomen, I would recommend 2 of the Cool Core applicators at the peaks of your lower abdomen. Make sure to consult with a certified provider.

I recommend getting a consultation in person, however from the photo and my experience with lower abdominal treatments, I would say at least 1 treatment with 1 of the smaller hand pieces on each side. Most practices do free consults and they can determine if there is enough "pinchable" fat to fit into a hand piece as well as how many treatments you may need if any for the best possible outcome. The actual technician should be certified by Zeltiq, as well as the practice, giving you the most confidence in their knowledge of how to get the best possible treatment.  

Our practice is to perform a detailed consultation for each patient so we can actually see and feel the area you want treated. There are many factors including what type of fat you have (visceral vs. subcutaneous) and how graspable your abdomen is. The procedure can be performed by a certified technician, the company offers a lot of training tools and Coolsculpting University for hands on training. What sets our practice apart is we were the first in our area to have the machine, have the newer hand pieces, and have dual sculpting... So experience is a good place to start when your searching for a certified practitioner.

From the look of your photo, you seem to be an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting.  A standard approach of 2 "small" sized applicators, one on each side of your lower abdomen, would likely give you a very nice improvement with just one session.As far as who applies the applicators, look for an experienced office with experienced, qualified personnel.  The person who applies CoolSculpting should be an RN, NP, PA, or MD - but any of these with experience should provide you with a good result, particularly as your situation is very classic and uncomplicated.Best wishes, Dr. L
