How do I know if a dr is a double board certified plastic surgeon?

I have a CC and I have been recommended to see double board certified plastic surgeons for consultations but how do I know which ones are double board decertified and what does double board certified mean

Far more important than the technique is the skill and experience of your plastic surgeon. Choose your surgeon rather than the technique and let them explain why one technique may be better than another.  See the below link on some suggestions on finding the most qualified Plastic Surgeon for you.  Always insist on a board certified plastic surgeon.

Dear VerbeeFor breast surgery, there is only one board that matters, The American Board of Plastic Surgery. There is no other mainstream board that actually certifies a surgeons ability for aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery as well as training. For procedures like rhinoplasty, American Board of Plastic Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery both properly certify their physicians. In my opinion, double board certified is abused and used for marketing much more so than it should be. Sometimes specialties go beyond their training and want to expand into areas they don't have the background for. This is where you can use board certification to assure proper background and training. In my opinion, since a dermatologist might be certified in both cosmetic surgery and derm, they are still not qualified to do breast surgery although they are Double boarded.

You can go to the American Board of Medical Specialties (AMBS.org) to check a surgeon's board certifications.  For your problem of capsular contracture you should be looking for someone certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  Separately, look for a designation of FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons) which is awarded to surgeons with top training and credentials and significant experience in their field of surgery. What is important is that your plastic surgeon inboard certified by the American board of plastic surgery. He can have multiple other board certifications but the only important one that applies to what you are looking for is the ABPS.

I would suggest starting with the American Society of Plastic
Surgery(ASPS) and/or the Aesthetic Society of Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) to obtain
a list of well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. That is the only board that matter in plastic surgery.

Then, I would suggest you visit a few surgeons whose practices concentrate on
aesthetic surgery. Ask to see before and after photos.

only mean they got board certified in their per-requisite specialty prior to obtaining their board in plastic surgery.  This includes general surgery, urology, ENT, orthopedics, etc.  It does not make you a better plastic surgeon.  So find someone who is board certified in plastic surgery and choose the one you like and trust.

Your choice of plastic surgeon will be a choice you live with for years. A successful procedure will make you feel more like yourself and give you greater confidence. On the other hand, ending up in the hands of an inexperienced surgeon increases your chances of having poor results which leads to additional costs, time, and heartache. The certification that you want to check for is with the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Being double board certified simply means that physician is board-certified by 2 separate specialty boards. Be sure to do your homework.

That term in itself is meaningless, it simply means the doctor has board certification by two boards, they may be real boards or they may not. You simply need a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and well experienced in cosmetic breast surgery. You can go to the boards website to check on your surgeon.
