Tightness 6 months post facelift. What could be causing this? (Photo)

Question

I had a facelift over 6 months ago and I am still experiencing extreme tightness around my neck and jawline. I feel like I have a vice around my neck and it is extremely uncomfortable. The area under my chin is lumpy and bumpy with vertical lines. What could be causing this? I'm very upset and will be seeing my PS soon, but I would like to hear what other doctors think is going on here. Thank you for your help.

Several factors can influence the healing process following surgery, including the surgical technique used by the surgeon, the type of procedure performed, and the level of recovery you are experiencing. What you're describing can be part of the normal healing process following a facelift. However, experiencing extreme tightness and discomfort six months post-operatively is less common, and it's very helpful that you talk about  this with your surgeon so it can be addressed promptly. Sometimes, the healing process can include tightness that will gradually ease over time. However, your complaints do warrant a closer look. The feeling of tightness along the neck and jawline could be due to the pulling of the deep tissues to contour the neck.  However, without knowing exactly what technique your surgeon used it will be impossible to know for certain.  For example, were suspension sutures used to contour the neck?  Were energy-based devices used at any point?  It is best to visit with your surgeon who will be able to evaluate you in person.
