What should I wear to the hospital on the day of my surgery?

I tell my patients to wear comfortable clothing that opens in the front that is easy to get in and out of, nothing that needs to go over the head. Shoes that can easily slip on and off,nothing that needs to lace up.Once the patient is checked in they change into a hospital gown and their clothes are put into a locker. Since their clothes were worn only a short time, they can wear the same clothes home so there is no need to bring additional clothing.

For your comfort and convenience I would pack a gym bag with any medications or garments issued you by your surgeon, your phone charger and iPod and a change of underwear with a toiletries kit. I would wear the most comfortable pajamas or scrub pants and top you have; the kind you would not care if they became stained. Leave all valuables and jewlery home.
