Hi @Tyler 9997. I recommend getting a few units of Botox into the DAO muscle. The injections stop the DAO muscle pulling down the corners of the mouth. Treatment will cause the corners of the mouth to be slightly lifted, giving the mouth a more relaxed, happy, youthful and pleasing appearance. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!
Turning up the corners of the mouth is easy and quick with a little restylane or belotero filler. It just takes a couple of minutes and is almost painless.
I have personally been treating the marionette lines (aka "sad" lines, downturned angles of the mouth) since the early 1980s with the original Zyplast collagen fillers. We have fortunately come along way since those days when we simply "chased" after lines and folds, like the marionette lines, by simply filling them up with whatever filler du jour was available at the time.Nowadays, owing to our far more sophisticated understanding of the aging process in the face, particularly to the effects of bone, muscle, and fat loss, we attempt rather to re-contour, reshape and rejuvenate the face by restoring volume to areas that have lost it with the passage of time. It may seem counterintuitive, but the marionette lines result in the main from facial volume loss within the cheeks above. This means that restoring the volume to the cheeks with a volumizing filler, such as Voluma XC or Radiesse Plus, can result in significant uplift and improvement in the marionette lines--without even directly injecting them. To understand this better, you may wish to search the archives of RealSelf. com for The Nonsurgical 3D Vectoring Facelift. What is important is that you seek consultation with a board certified aesthetic physician with experience in the many nonsurgical methods for facial rejuvenation using volumizing fillers. Make sure to ask to see his/her before and after photos before proceeding.
I appreciate your concern, so I would recommend conservative treatment with Hyaluronic Acid, like Juvederm plus. Placed properly near the corners of your mouth, it can turn that frown upside down! Another option is fat transfer which is more permanent. Seek out a board certified plastic surgeon in your area, Good Luck!
To turn the corners of the mouth up, inject Botox into the DAO and place filler in the marionette lines and corners of the mouth.
Photos and more information would be helpful. If you have a downturn due to facial wasting and age, then a facelift might help. Fillers can help as well of some.
Hello Tyler 9997,There are several options for helping turn up the corner of the mouth. The best option depends on how much of a downturn you have and what is causing it. In some patients using small amounts of Botox on a muscle that pulls down the corner of the mouth can help it turn up. The risk of this method is that it can affect the smile in some people. This is temporary and would require reinjection about every 3 months. Another option is the use of fillers. I like hyaluronic acid based fillers such as Juvederm Ultra XC. They work by stiffening the upper part of the lip and adding bulk to the bottom corner to turn it upside down. They are temporary but usually last around 6-9 months in that area, sometimes longer. The last option is surgical. The benefit is this is more long lasting but it does require a procedure and there is a scar left behind. The scar usually heals quite well. To determine what is best for you I'd recommend you consult with a facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon. I hope this helps and good luck.
The only surgical method and the one with overall greatest effectiveness is the corner of the mouth lift procedure. You can try injectable fillers but they will only be effective for the most minimal downturned mouth corners.
A corner lip lift can make a sad looking mouth look neutral and more attractive. It is done under local anesthesia.
