This is a problem because the eye can dry out. You need to discuss this immediately with your doctor. This is one of the few emergencies with Botox. If the eye drys out too much, a corneal ulceration can occur. You need to be put on drops, ointments, and possible taping, just as someone with Bells Palsy.
Hi. Thank you for your question. Eyelid myokymia is fluttering or twittching of the eyelid due to an overactive orbicularis oculi muscle. Botox injections into this muscle can weaken its function and reduce the myokymia. However, the orbicularis oculi's main function is to close the eye, so if this muscle is weakened, the eyelid may not be able to close all they way. It looks like this is what is going on with you. The good news is that The effect of Botox is temporary (3 month duration). However, because your eye is not closing well, you are at risk for dry eye (called exposure keratopathy). Treatment usually consists of lubricating drops and ointment along with making sure the eye is closed at night- until the Botox wears off. Obviously, it is impossible to give a real opinion over the internet, so you should see an ophthalmologist for evaluation. Hope this helps. Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
Thank you for your question. It is not a great idea to pick at an injection site. However, if you have any redness, swelling or increase pain at the site, then this could be an infection. If this does occur, please follow up with injector for an evaluation and treatment. Best of Luck!
