I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis last July. Since then, I have been on Plaquenil with good results. I have Juvederm and Restylane in my face, but I would like to add some Botox, just for crows feet. Is this considered safe with the recent autoimmune diagnosis? Thank you

Answer: Is Botox safe with Autoimmune conditions? Thanks for your question. In general, patients with autoimmune injections should be cautious with all facial injections. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is typically not associated with neurological symptoms. For that reason, Botox should not be a problem. It sounds like you have good results with previous facial injections. I recommend you see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with experience in facial injections to discuss this with and make a safe plan. I hope this was helpful. All the best.

Answer: Is is safe to have Botox injected with autoimmune condition? Hello Carissa86695,When it comes to Botox and autoimmune diseases it is not recommended if you have a neurological condition (such as myasthenia gravis or multiple sclerosis). The reason is because these conditions affect your muscles and nervous system, and Botox is designed to weaken muscles. For other autoimmune conditions, such as Hashimoto's, there should be no problem. I'd recommend you discuss all of your medical conditions with your injector prior to injecting, but I would have no concern treating my patient with Hashimoto's.I hope this helps and good luck.
