Is it still possible to shift anything 9 months post-op rhinoplasty?

Hi, this month I will be 9 months post op of a rhinoplasty. My swelling is still pretty severe, and 12 days ago my surgeon gave me a tiny amount of steroid injection. He also told me to massage the nose, which I've been doing and putting a considerable amount of pressure on. It doesn't hurt at all, but I notice that whenever I do massage it it gets more swollen for 1/2 days. At 9 months how strong is the nose, and can cartilage or anything like that still shift and ruin my results?

When somebody comes to our office with a broken nose, nasal bones are nearly impossible to move after 10 days from the accident. Though swelling is still possibly persistent 9 months post-operative, I do not think that pushing firmly would do anything to harm your results. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Hi, and thank you for your question. After a rhinoplasty procedure, the healing process can take up to a year or even longer in some cases. During this time, the nose will gradually refine and the swelling will continue to decrease.
However, by 9 months post-op, most of the major changes and healing should have occurred. While minor changes might still happen, it's unlikely that there will be any major shifts in the shape or structure of the nose without additional intervention. I would recommend discussing this with your surgeon. You may need to lessen the amount of pressure you are applying to your nose while massaging.

As far as I can understand from your question ,massage is important to get rid of edema, but you should not press too hard. It may take up to 2 years for your nose to take its shape according to the skin structure.
It would be better face to face consultation.

It may take much longer for swelling after rhinoplasty to resolve. Gentle massage, placement of tapes over night have shown slow by steady progress. Hope this helps.
