Hi Community I had lipo 360 with BBL performed by a top notch surgeon in Chicago a year ago. His specialty is giving thin women with low BMIs lipo 360 with a conservative BBL. I had a bmi of 23 before my surgery. I definitely noticed in the 1st week it seemed uneven in places on my abdomen. There were also several hard lumps which I also could see. I followed all post op instructions to a T. I thought this would all resolve over time but it hasn’t. I am searching for feedback on my condition.
Answer: Liposuction results Liposuction removes excess fat and then the skin gradually contracts. Liposuction in general doesn't correct cellulite and at times can make it more obvious. Some patients may benefit from a postop nonsurgical skin tightening ultrasound device like Sofwave for cellulite or radiofrequency devices. Weight changes can affect the results of liposuction. During liposuction, cannulas removed excess of fat. It takes 6-12 months for swelling to resolve and the skin to contract. Areas of excess fat or bulging, can often be improved with off-label Kybella or additional liposuction. Areas of depression can be treated with fat grafting or Renuva.

Answer: Liposuction results Liposuction results are usually final by three months and significant changes will not be seen by waiting longer. You picture does not show obvious problems. To make an assessment of a plastic surgery procedure we generally need to see proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have your before and after pictures then ask your surgeon to forward the ones they took. Delivering consistent quality liposuction and fat transfer results is more difficult than most people realize. I don’t know what top notch surgeon really means. In my experience there seems to be an inverse correlation between surgeons who are famous or are self promoters and those who are truly talented and focus more on patient care than financial success and notoriety. Number of plastic surgeons who truly mastered liposuction and fat transfer are in a small minority. Been board-certified in plastic surgery with years of experience does not mean somebody has mastered any one single procedure especially ones with a long learning curve like body contouring. I generally recommend patients have multiple in person, consultations before committing to permanent irreversible body contouring procedures. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of patients who had similar body characteristics to your own. An experienced plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. Considering how much variation there is in skill and competence, when it comes to both Liposuction and fat transfer, I suggest patient start the process by having at least five in person consultation before committing to surgery. Uneven contours are usually a direct representation of how the procedure was performed. Collecting liposuction outcomes can generally only be done with more surgery. Revision liposuction procedures are far more difficult than primary procedures. The importance of provider selection becomes far greater when it comes to finding providers to do revision work. We can’t really make an assessment from the single picture you’ve included. I suggest getting proper before and after pictures and consider re-posting using those. Follow up with your provider and have him or her address your concerns. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
