ThermiTight vs CoolSculpting - what is the difference?

Thank you for your question.  I recommend a combination of procedures for optimal results.

ThermiTight utilizes a small electrode inserted under the skin to heat tissue to a selected therapeutic temperature.  Literature has shown that elevating skin to a therapeutic temperature level can contract collagen molecules and stimulate collagen production, which may give the appearance of lifting or tightening.   Fat reduction is rare, unless set to high temperatures and kept at high temperatures for a significant amount of time .

To best answer your question,  it  depends on how much skin laxity you have.   ThermiTight can work well in the thigh area to tighten skin that is mild to moderately laxity.  Surgery may be a better option, if you have excessive laxity.   Results with ThermiTight vary from patient to patient.  You should experience some overall improvement.

The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.

Please post photos of your concerned area to see if its fat and/or fat with skin or just skin laxity or cellulite.  All of these are treated differently.  Coolsculpting is just for fat reduction and ThermiRF is more for skin tightening.  They can be done together.  Best, Dr. Emer.

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction treatment. It has minimal, if any, effect on skin tightening. ThermiTight is a non-surgical treatment that can both reduce fat and tighten the skin. If your issue is mostly loose skin then ThermiTight is a better option. A combination of both treatments can work well in the area of the back of the thighs and I often use this approach. Thanks for your question.  We do both in our office.  Without pictures, its hard to tell.  But for coolsculpting, you need to make sure the area to be treated has adequate fat and/or tension to allow for the handpiece to work.  The best option would be to discuss with your provider and see what they recommend.

CoolSculpting is a totally non-surgical option using a cooling plate on a skin bulge to create apoptosis or fat cell resorption and therefore fat loss.

ThermiTIGHT is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia (with or without sedation) using Radio Frequency energy via a needle-like probe under the skin to directly heat and tighten the skin.

Each is performed at a different level of the skin and maybe performed at the same time. Another combination includes liposuction and ThermiTIGHT. Patient expectations cannot be met if you do not understand the limitations and benefits of each procedure.

Thank you so much for your question! Without examining you myself or seeing photos, it is difficult for me to make a recommendation. If you are looking to remove fat, I would recommend CoolSculpting. If you are looking to tighten extra skin, then I would recommend ThermiTight. In our practice, many patients will remove fat via Coolsculpting first, and then follow that treatment with ThermiTight in order to minimize or get rid of the skin excess. 

Your choice of treatment would really depend on whether you need fat removal or skin tightening. If it's fat reduction you're after Coolsculpting may not be the best option because of the difficulty in getting a nice result in that location. I would suggest treatments with Exilis which can give you really nice even results without any dimpling and can achieve  skin tightening at the same time. It is a very comfortable procedure requiring no anesthesia and no down time.  Hope this helps.

ThermiTight is a procedure which tightens skin and can improve  contours and irregularities in the skin.  CoolSculpting is more appropriate for removal of small amounts of unwanted  fat without surgery.  Achieving optimal results in a specific case is most appropriate for the skilled person to make that judgement in person where he can examine you and communicate most effectively.
