I had liposuction on my calves 6 months ago. One calf is very lumpy and bumpy. Why is this happening? Can it be treated? What kind of treatment is recommended?

Answer: Correcting poorly done liposuction Your procedure was done in adequately. Correcting poorly done liposuction is very difficult and sometimes not possible. This is especially true when people have been over treated. It's hard enough leaving people with a smooth even contour starting with a smooth even contour. Taking someone who has a lumpy bumpy and contour and making a smoothie is 10 times harder. I would not trust your current provider to do a revision considering your results. Correcting these deformities come down to revision liposuction in which case the remaining fat is removed to create an even contour or fat transfer to fill in the defects or a combination of both. Liposuction of the calf's and ankles is the most challenging anatomic area on the body. I have immense respect for this area and proceed only with great caution and only offer the procedure to those who truly need it. If you can find a plastic surgeon who has true expertise in body contouring, liposuction and or fat transfer then you can consider a revision. All plastic surgeons perform liposuction but a number of plastic surgeons who are truly great at it is fairly small. My practice is devoted exclusively to liposuction and fat transfer procedure is and has been for the last decade. Currently they perform approximately 400 liposuction cases per year. Calfs and ankles represent 0.25% of the cases I do. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
