I had liposuction on my calves 6 months ago. One calf is very lumpy and bumpy. Why is this happening? Can it be treated? What kind of treatment is recommended?
Answer: Uneven after liposuction Dear Cheerful1898, I would have to examine you but it appears that this is a contour irregularity after liposuction. This happens often when areas the undergo liposuction are not feathered appropriately. The good news is that it can be fixed and I have done so with good results before. While there is always a chance for contour irregularities with liposuction, someone who takes their time and uses the appropriate sized cannulas should give you a superb result.I have all my patients wear compression garments and I use multiple sized cannulas to feather out the result. Answer: Post-Liposuction After Care -- Compression, Lymphatic Massage, Hyperbaric Oxygen, Radiofrequency (Venus Legacy, Exilis, Forma) based on the photos you need a revision procedure. please see an expert who does a lot of leg / calf liposuction combined with internal heating.however, swelling post-lipo can persist for months, so it's important to be on the right after care protocols. In addition to compression, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and radiofrequency treatments, lymphatic massage is highly effective in the prevention of fluid buildup, scar tissue, inflammation, and infections. Lymphatic massage also decreases the chance of irregularities, lumps or bumps; accelerates healing and minimizes downtime; and, following a liposculpture procedure, can help further contour the abdominals. I recommend that my liposculpture patients receive lymphatic massage treatments every day for a week following their procedure; twice per week for the following month; and then once per week until healing is complete. I recommend following up with your physician (or with a hi-definition physique expert) about best after care practices. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Lumps & Bumps after Lipo to calves? Dear Cheerful1898,Thank you for your question. It is unfortunate that you've experienced this problem. If the lumps are from fat then massage and or ultrasonic therapy may help to smooth it out; if it is a contour issue from too much fat being removed from very localized areas then fat grafting may help. A really smooth contour may not be achievable. Good luck hope this helps.James Sheridan, MD

Answer: Correcting poorly done liposuction Your procedure was done in adequately. Correcting poorly done liposuction is very difficult and sometimes not possible. This is especially true when people have been over treated. It's hard enough leaving people with a smooth even contour starting with a smooth even contour. Taking someone who has a lumpy bumpy and contour and making a smoothie is 10 times harder. I would not trust your current provider to do a revision considering your results. Correcting these deformities come down to revision liposuction in which case the remaining fat is removed to create an even contour or fat transfer to fill in the defects or a combination of both. Liposuction of the calf's and ankles is the most challenging anatomic area on the body. I have immense respect for this area and proceed only with great caution and only offer the procedure to those who truly need it. If you can find a plastic surgeon who has true expertise in body contouring, liposuction and or fat transfer then you can consider a revision. All plastic surgeons perform liposuction but a number of plastic surgeons who are truly great at it is fairly small. My practice is devoted exclusively to liposuction and fat transfer procedure is and has been for the last decade. Currently they perform approximately 400 liposuction cases per year. Calfs and ankles represent 0.25% of the cases I do. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
