Few cosmetic procedures are covered by medical insurance.Sometimes an abdominoplasty can be partially covered if the skin develops rashes or infections. When this is the case, the procedure covered is referred to as a panniculectomy. It is simply an amputation of the loose-hanging skin. To perform a proper abdominoplasty, the belly button needs to be repositioned, and muscle tightening is typically performed. This part of the procedure is never covered by insurance. Other skin removal procedures, such as arm lifts, thigh lifts, breast lifts or facelifts, are never covered by insurance. There are several companies that offer financing for cosmetic surgery. The biggest one that is most commonly used is called CareCredit. Many plastic surgery offices offer this type of financing. Patients must qualify for financing like any other loan. There is no other type of financial aid of which I am aware. Patients are expected to pay for cosmetic surgery themselves.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
