How long after breast lift can I go back to playing squash?

Question

I am 4 weeks post mastopexy surgery and everything seems to be going well, but I have to go back to playing squash so I can train for an upcoming tournament, when is it safe to start back slowly?

I love this question as I have a daughter playing squash in college this year! You need to wait at least one month and make sure you wear a well fitted sports bra to avoid too much movement. Don't forget to call your Lets if your opponent starts getting too close. Best of luck

I discourage any high impact activities for at least six weeks after a mastopexy, but it really depends on what kind of surgery you had and how large you are. In a woman with small breasts and a limited mastopexy, going back earlier would probably be fine so long as a supportive bra is worn. Your surgeon should be able to give you the best advice.

Typically at 4 weeks you can use your body as your guide to start exercising but I do not suggest my patients start playing raquette sports until 6 weeks after surgery to best ensure full recovery.

Thank you for this wonderful question! Typically at 4 weeks post-operative I will discuss with my patients easing back into more vigorous activity. It is not uncommon to find that with the increase in activity you will experience an increase in swelling. As with any surgery, every patient is different with regard to recovery time. I always suggest an open and honest conversation with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with regard to your plan to increase activity as he/she may already have a post-operative plan tailored specifically for you.
