Swelling can figure prominently into liposuction after a few weeks.  The results are typically observed immediately following surgery, and then there is a period of swelling that can persist for 3 to 6 months and sometimes longer.  The key factor in this is to assure that there is only swelling and not a fluid collection that must be drained.  Only a physical exam will be able to sort these issues out.   The liposuctioned areas will tend to accumulate less fat due to the fact that the cell number in that area has been decreased with the liposuction. The swelling from liposuction usually resolves over 3-6 months.  Ballpark - 50 % after one month, 25 % after each of the second and third months and then diet and exercise may improve it more.  The loose skin will contract to the best of its ability on its own.  This depends on the elasticity and collagen in the skin.  If you are left with loose skin, you may need an excision procedure.  Weight maintenance is based on your strict adherence to a diet and exercise regimen.
