Could Fractional Co2 Laser increase facial fat?

Question

I had Fractional Co2 Laser 2 years ago to improve my acne scars. I noticed after that, my face has got much bigger, stored much higher facial fat. I'm now having rounder face shape and more chubby cheeks than I used to. The difference in photos before/after is HUGE. I did not even gain weight, I was 63-65 kg 2 yrs ago, now I am only 59-60 kg. Is it possible that swelling effect is still there or my face's skin lose its elasticity because of the procedure or any other reasons?

Thank you for your question. CO2 Laser stimulates collages to help minimize fine lines and tighten the skin. It doesn’t affect facial fat. I would recommend consulting with your primary MD if you noticed changes in your weight. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. I am not aware of any studies or reports of Fractional CO2 Laser increasing facial fat.  You should see your primary care physician to see if there is an underlying medical condition (or any medications you are taking) that are causing this. I hope this helps!

I have been doing Co2 resurfacing for close to 8 years now and have never seen fractional or even fully ablative resurfacing change the fat compartments of the fat, neck, chest, or hands.  If you are concerned I suggest seeing your general physician for a general check up and/or hormonal workup.  Best, Dr. Emer.
