How Long After C02 Fractional Laser do I Wait to Wash my Face?

It is imperative to wash your face post co2 laser, to promote the healing process and prevent fungal infections.  I have my patients begin vinegar soaks three times daily starting the day after surgery.  If you washed your face aggressively, you could cause increased redness or potentially scarring.  My suggestion is to follow your post operative instructions which should include proper wound/skin care.  My patients use Bioshield and Aqauphor ointment.  I am sure no permanent damage has been done or will be if you follow your instructions, however I suggest calling your physician.

Thank you for the question.  Yes, you can wash your face the day after treatment of the Fractional CO2 procedure.  We recommend using a gentle cleanser with no harsh chemicals or perfumes. This can be done with cool to lukewarm water and light motion with no scrubbing or added pressure. After cleansing dry off with a clean towel or gauze.  So you are most probably ok.  Hope that helps.

Each physician will have a different protocol.  In my practice, I personally wash my patient's face the morning following a resurfacing procedure.  I see my patients almost daily in the first week post-op, so I generally wash the face each morning and the patient washes their face in the evening.  I prefer to wash with lukewarm water and CeraVe cleanser or foaming gel.  Aquaphor and/ or Dermalaid is my lubricant of choice.  I have many other post-laser instructions though.  Healing from a resurfacing procedure is highly dependent on post-resurfacing skin care. 

In my practice I typically have all my patients wash their face the day after fractionated laser resurfacing with a non-irritating facial cleanser such as Cetaphil. They then reapply aquaphor ointment to the face for the next 3 days, washing the face twice daily.  Vinegar soaks also help to releive any itching patients might experience.  After 3 days of aquaphor, patients begin liberally applying a recommended moisturizer.  Good Luck.

Every doctor has a different protocol post-Laser treatment. My patients can start washing their face at 24 hours post-treatment with a non agressive soap without perfume.
To answer your specific questions: I don't think you would have bad effects from the fact you washed your face, I do not think it will affect your treatment.

Do follow your dermatologist's instructions, but you probably have not caused any lasting problems at all.  My fractionated CO2 laser patients usually have their first face wash with a gentle soap-free cleanser the day after procedure and regular emollient up to 12x/day.  All the best.
