Porcelain crown, veneers or bonding for teeth grinding?

The last year I've been under severe stress. This has caused grinding of my teeth not front teeth but back. When I smile specifically numbers 14,15, 24, and 25 are really worn down. I do not like how this makes my smile less youthful. What would be the best option from bonding to porcelain crowns or veneers? Thanks in advance.

Hello,Sorry to hear you have been stressed!Grinding is a super common problem. If back teeth are worn I would recommend a very strong material such as zirconium (which is white) or in some rarer cases metal may be necessary. Front teeth need to assessed clinically since they are in the aesthetic zone. Furthermore a biteguard is essential. Also, figuring out if there are any bite issues and correcting those would be key as well. Sometimes they can contribute to these specific wear patterns. Good luck!

It would be wise to thoroughly evaluate your bite before beginning any treatment.  If there are any teeth that need to be restored, there are many durable dental materials that can replace whatever tooth has been worn away.  In addition, wearing a nightguard is essential.

Stress is a huge problem in today's world.For some, it causes their hair to fall out or to turn gray.For others, it causes them to grind or to clench their teeth together.As far as your habit goes, putting veneers or crowns on your teethbefore you have your bite analyzed and treated, will lead to them wearing, chipping or breaking.Find a dentist in your area that really knows about occlusion- how your teeth come together.Likely, you have a discrepancy in how your teeth come together and how they shouldcome together. Botox is great for decreasing your grinding force and super fast and simple to administer.  Find a qualified dentist, the American Academy of Facial Esthetics is a good source among others and if you are not sleeping well, they could possibly help identify an issue there too.  There are many "bite guards" available but if you are having a sleep breathing issue, they could actually worsen your grinding. Get the grind figured out ASAP.
