8 years ago I had 8 porcelain veneers placed on my top front teeth.About 6 years ago I started with jaw pain and headaches daily. I constantly grind and clench my teeth. I have been to specialist after specialist and found no relief or answers. Thank you for you time!
Answer: Veneers and bite It's possible there was a bite issue before you had your veneers placed that has gotten progressively worse as it sometimes does. Assuming this is not the case--yes restorations that have affected the bite and caused an instability may cause some grinding. It could be that the restorations or top surfaces of the teeth have worn down more over the years giving you an unstable bite. Advice would be to see both a TMJ specialist and a restorative dentist with experience in full mouth rehabilitation.

Answer: Clenching and pain Stress. You have to find a way to stop the destructive grind and clinch during the day and there is a high probability you are doing the same all night long. A dentist knowledgeable in sleep wellness is were I would start, so an AAFE (American Academy of Facial Esthetics) and/or AADSM (American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine) are two associations I would ask for referral in your location. I routinely test patients in your situation utilizing a Home Sleep Monitor with Bruxism Sensor so your sleep bruxism can be quantified and your sleep breathing quality can be assessed. There are many reasons for clinching/ grinding and many therapies to help but a proper and thorough diagnosis is needed. A protective night guard, an NTI appliance, an MRD, Lab sleep study, CPAP, Botox muscle injections can all be options. I would not think your veneers would have caused your problem as the pain occurred 2 years after and if they were causing a bite problem, veneers would usually have broken or came off by now.

Answer: Misaligned jaw due to veneers Thank you for posting your question. It is possible that the veneers get in the way of your bite and cause your jaw to shift. However, it is also possible that you had an undiagnosed bite issue prior to the veneers. Do you have any clicking or popping in your joint? The only way to know what is going on in your bite is to have a full evaluation with diagnostic casts. Find a Pankey trained dentist in your area. Hope this helps.

Answer: Jaw misalignment due to veneers Hi:The bite on the veneers can have an effect on the jaw. However, it is unlikely for the veneers to be effecting your jaw. My main concern is the clenching and the grinding might be effecting your bite and the position of your teeth. Make sure you are wearing a properly adjusted night guard every night.Best,Dr. Maddahi
