I had my front four upper teeth procedure 5 days ago and I am currently wearing the temps. I realize that the temps are basically one large piece of plastic which will have limitations but (1) The inside back of the Temps seem rough and don't meet my gum line. Will the Perm even have a 'back' to them or will they cover mainly the front of the tooth? Will the thickness and shape be the exact sames. I really like the look but it often feels like when you were a kid and placed chewing gum over your teeth.
Answer: Temporaries to be adjusted The 'quality' of your temporary IS really important. They are there for a short period of time but give an observant dentist lots of vital information. If they keep chipping off, sometimes there is a significant bite issue that may need to be communicated to the dentist so that the final veneers are modified. Similarly, if they are very sensitive it can mean that there is leakage in to the tooth from the preparation stage. It is relevant about when you will be getting the finals fitted. I take great pride in making sure the veneers fit well and polish them to avoid the discomfort patients go through at a stressful time for them. I also keep spares in case there is a breakage or a loss - maybe your dentist will have planned for this also. As to how much of the back of your tooth is covered, you have to remember that temporaries sometimes have to be bigger and more like crowns to avoid falling off, where the final porcelain is bonded with extremely strong glue that makes this unecessary. The glue holding on veneer temporaries has to be relatively weak so that it cleans off easily and allows the final restorations to be fitted without damaging the shape of the underlying tooth. If there is much more time left before your fit appointment maybe you should call your dentist and ask for an adjust? Happy to be of help and good luck Kind regards Thomas Dey, BDS, MSc

Answer: Temporaries Congratulations on getting veneers!Temporaries can sometimes be a little rough if not completely polished. They are usually acrylic bases so it is the nature of the material. The final restorations are made of porcelain and have a glass like feel and are super smooth. More importantly make sure you are happy with the look of the temps. Do you like the length, are you speaking properly, how is the shape, etc. This is important because the final veneers mimic the temporaries. Make sure you see the final veneers before cementing. You will definitely be happier with the feel of the final veneers! Good luck!!

Answer: Feel of temporaries Hi:Since the temporaries are made out of acrylic, the texture will be rough and the thickness will be very different from final restoration. The final restorations should be very smooth and thinner.Best,Dr. Maddahi

Answer: Veneer Temps Your veneers will probably have a back to them. This "wraparound" is often times important for esthetics and stability. We typically try to make the temps look similar to the final outcome to act as a prototype for the permanent veneers. I'm sure you'll be happy when your case is complete!

Answer: Temporary Veneers The look, feel, and fit of temporary veneers can vary greatly from dentist to dentist. You're correct that the temporary veneers are resin (like plastic) and they are almost always splinted together which can give a bulky feel. The margin (where the veneer and tooth meet) is often open with temporary veneers because the fit is not exact. Some veneers cover some of the back of the tooth. Usually the permanent veneers are smooth, polished, and life-like so don't be too concerned about how the temps feel. Make sure you like the feel of the final veneers before final cementation.
