Coolsculpting is a relatively superficial treatment that has no affect on internal organs. Sometimes if a person has an abdominal hernia, then treatment over the hernia would not be recommended to avoid worsening the hernia from the suction involved with the treatment. That would be the only gastro-intestinal issue to be aware of. Swelling and discomfort are common after the treatment, and could last a couple of weeks. Some minor tingling and discomfort may even last 3-4 weeks. These symptoms are from the inflammation in skin and fat that are induced by the treatment. This same inflammation is part of the fat reduction process. I'm sure your Coolsculpting provider would be willing to address your symptoms and concerns, and should evaluate you if any of your symptoms persist.
What you’re experiencing at this point is completely normal for one week post treatment. The CoolSculpting treatment is very superficial in that it only targets pockets of fat close to the surface of the skin. The excretion of fat is a natural elimination process and involves the lymphatic system. Your gastrointestinal system is not involved in this process. The actual elimination of fat cells has not occurred at one week post treatment. This will slowly occur over 2-3 months post treatment. The swelling and pain around the waist is normal at this point, but should be mild to moderate. Patients typically report the most significant amount of pain 7-10 days post treatment and it should slowly start to resolve after that point. If you are experiencing severe pain then I would recommend contacting your provider. In the meantime, avoid restriction clothing and try ice packs to the site for 15-20 minutes at a time.
Yes, numbness is a fairly common side effect following CoolSculpting treatments. It should resolve on its own over the course of a few weeks, although in some cases it may last for a month or two.
Sorry, but coolsculpting will not work on an apron of fat. The device is designed to help flatten bulges and areas where fat can be pinched, but the skin is not loose( such as a "love handle"). An apron of fat hangs and the coolsculpting will not tighten...
Thank you for this question. Many of the patients at my practice in California's Bay Area are interested in CoolSculpting to reduce fat in their upper arms. The procedure is cleared by the FDA for treatments that reduce fat in the abdomen, flanks, thighs, and under the chin. So treating the...
