Breast implant complication - is it possible for implants to cause intercostal neuralgia?

There are nerves under the ribs that might be rubbed by the breast implant. Typically by 3 weeks I would recommend massaging implants which sometimes helps, as well as NSAID's like Aleve.
I would recommend you arrange a visit with a local plastic surgeon who is board certified. The problem with overseas surgery is no followup. I would recommend you get your operative report for your visit.

One of the reasons to have surgery close to home is that when there is a problem or complication, it can be handled by the person who was in the operating room. This is universally done for free. I am not sure that intercostal neuralgia can occur from BA, because the nerve is between the 2nd and 3rd layer of muscle on the deep surface of the rib bone. That said, there are perforating nerves lateral to the Pec major. Sometimes, those nerves are put on a stretch by the implant. Up higher is the intercostobrachiocutaneous nerve which can also be affected by surgery. At 3 weeks, I would not be too worried as this may all pass. If it does not, nerve down regulators like Neurontin might be used. You might consider seeing someone local, but expect to pay for your visits.

It may be possible to develop intercostal neuralgia with block anesthesia. Your surgery report and a conversation with your surgeon could reveal whether this anesthetic technique was employed for your surgery. His office staff may be able to help you with this question and refer you to a covering doctor for an evaluation while your doc is abroad.
