I have a flat face after zygomatic reduction surgery in Korea. Can I get my cheekbones back? (Photo)

Based on the CT scan and photos, the surgeon performed osteotomy (cutting the bones) and placement of metallic plates to fix the bones.  Particularly over the zygoma, the bones are flat and concave.  It is potentially possible to undo the osteotomy and place the plates in previous shape, but it would be very difficult.  But I believe it can be done by removing the plates and redoing osteotomy.  More simple solution would be placement of the implants over the flat area.  If you have no functional problems from the surgery, this may be a better solution.  Best,Alex Kim, MD

Moving the cheek bones and zygomatic arches back out is very difficult and unpredictable. A better and more simpler approach is to augment the flattened areas by small onlay implants that extend across the zygomatic arches. They can be custom made based on your existing CT scan or semi-custom made using a standard skull model. They are inserted from inside the mouth.
