This is a great question. The shape that you get after a tummy tuck is dependent on your frame but also the technique of the plastic surgeon. I include liposuction of the flanks in all my tummy tucks to accentuate the flanks. I also pull the skin in a certain way, also to create an "hourglass" figure. Many surgeons may not appreciate this, and their results look "square". I would also recommend wearing a compression garment after the tummy tuck. This will help with the swelling and further improve your shape. Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.
Your anatomy dictates the ultimate outcome but the right procedure(s). is/are important. The incision location and design, plication techniques, and addition of liposuction significantly influence the final result. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon and see how he/she addresses each one!
Liposuction of the flanks and back in conjunction with tummy tuck can usually make the contours better, but some patients elect to have only tummy tuck. Some of the answer is the result of intrinsic patient shape. Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of mommy makeovers each year. Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results. Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA
Liposuction can be a good option to help further contour the waist and hip area with a tummy tuck if desired. This can be done at the same time as your tummy tuck surgery or your surgeon may advise you to wait. Discuss your options with your plastic surgeon for a plan of action that's best for your situation.
You are correct on one level. As you know people come in all shapes and sizes and some ethnicities also have a leaning to a certain type body habitus. Some women also have a more masculine shape as do some men with a more feminine shape. On the other hand the tummy tuck may need to be contoured with liposuction not only at the hip area as some other plastic surgeons mentioned here but in the upper abdomen and pubis regions as well. Also many surgeons don't tighten the abdominal musculature as much as is needed and as a result the patient may still look a bit stocky or "boxy" as you mentioned. You need to see a board certified plastic surgeon and go over expectations and surgical options for your body. William Aiello,M.D.Newport Beach & Los Alamitos CA
To the best of my knowledge, I have never been accused of giving a patient a boxy tummy tuck. Heavier and shorter patients tend to be at a higher risk. It is my opinion that most women will benefit from liposuction of the hips and flanks at the same time as their tummy tuck procedure to achieve the most attractive, feminine and youthful results. Position of the tummy tuck incision is also very important and may vary depending on different body types. All the best,Dr. Dahan
Everyone is built differently and after a tummy tuck no two people will look the same. If a patient looks boxy after their tummy tuck, it is probably because they were boxy before the procedure. Have a board certified plastic surgeon evaluate your abdomen to determine what type of result you might obtain. Express your concerns about the boxiness to him or her during your consultation.
Patients who look "square" (I am assuming you mean not a defined waist) have very short distances between pelvis and ribs, thus no space for a waist. It is entirely dependent on their preoperative anatomy as to what the results will be.
The Dominican Republic shares the island with Haiti which has the highest HIV incidence in the western hemisphere and DR although not as high is still higher than most countries. How they process their blood supply maybe adequate but there is no real way to know. As other surgeons have...
Thank you for your question and posting appropriate pictures. You seem to be a good candidate for lateral tension abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and trans abdominal breast augmentation. These procedures performed at the same time will contour your midsection and rejuvenate your breasts without any...
You will find that each surgeon has their own policy regarding fees. We give a written quote at the end of the consultation that shows a breakdown of the fees. If surgery is scheduled, the quote will remain the same. I recommend that my patients take 10 to 14 days off work unless it is a...
