After a mommy makeover, each surgeon has his or her standards for length of time to wear compression and support garments. There is no absolute answer, and therefore I can only speak from my own experience.
In Hawaii, at the Mommy Makeover Institute of Hawaii, I have patients wear a compression girdle post tummy tuck for 14 days. After that, I believe compression does little to decrease swelling and it only adds discomfort, especially in our tropical weather. I always have patients wear one piece of Reston foam immediately over the belly button for the full 2 weeks. This decreases the chance of free fat migrating above and below the belly button leading to bars of fat post tummy tuck which are difficult to get rid of.
As for what bra to wear and how long after a Mommy Makeover, it depends on which breast surgery was done. For breast augmentations, I have the patient wear no bra for 30 days but only nipple covers, and at the beginning, an ace wrap to decrease upper pole swelling and hasten the healing process. With breast lifts, either Benelli or standard anchor lifts with or without implants, I use a vest. Support is unnecessary for the first 30-60 days if the implants are positioned correctly. If I am doing a capsulopexy to correct a double bubble (hopefully some other plastic surgeon's), then we do use support bras with underwires for 21 days.
Compression garment and support bra use depend on the surgery and the surgeon. I hope this answers your question.
