Detached belly button from hernia- Tummy tuck success?

Question

I have an umbilical hernia after a pregnancy and also separated abdominal muscles. I was going to get this fixed with a tummy tuck. I found out today that my belly button has become detached. Is there any way to re-attach and have a successful tummy tuck outcome?

Although there are some concerns when the belly button appears "detached" with an umbilical hernia, it is common to do a repair of this along with muscle separation (diastasis) repair as part of a tummy tuck. Each situation requires individual assessment for specific advice however.

but a tummy tuck will help with improving your condition and most surgeons would repair your hernia at the same time.  And if your belly button isn't very attractive, reconstructed belly buttons can provide a much better outcome.  Your surgeon should be able to help you clearly understand what needs to be done in your situation.

It's not clear from your question, but if you had previous surgery where the BB was completely detached, which would be a bit unusual, then there is a significant chance the BB skin could die after a standard abdominoplasty necessitating further surgery to try and create a new one. Be sure to discuss this with your plastic surgeon and be sure to get a copy of the operative report from the previous surgery.
