Can I get a Tummy Tuck and Breast Implants after radiation and chemo?

Hello Kandy.I believe there's a very good opportunity to have a tummy tuck and breast surgery in about 3 to 4 years. Your history of cervical cancer may give you you a higher risk of DVT/PE and you should discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Radiation over the tummy could also increase the risks of would healing problems. Congratulations on your successful battle with cervical cancer. That's a tough one. To answer your question, I see no issues with any cosmetic breast surgery, but the radiation near your abdomen / pelvis may put you at a great risk of wound healing problems doing a tummy tuck. It really would depend on the field of radiation, and exactly where they treated you. You would want to wait as long as possible after the radiation before considering any abdominal surgery. The most important thing is to have you recover from your treaments.  If your scans are negative and your Gyn oncologist is comfortable then they can refer you to a Plastic Surgeon and you can have a consult to gather your information.

I would give your body time to recover from your chemo and to make sure your cancer is under control. If as you say that you are planning this in the 3-4 years, then I think that is reasonable. The pelvic radiation can increase your chance of having wound healing issues.  Radiation has an effect on wound healing. It really depends on the field treated by radiation.  Your radiation oncologist would be able to give you an idea of the field of radiation-- whether your tummy is in the field or not. As with all cosmetic procedures, your plastic surgeon would have to look at your overall medical history and your exam to see if you are a suitable candidate. I would recommend consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.
