What are the side effects from Keloidal Scar Treatment -- 5fu/steroid? Will weight gain be a problem since I need to have 3-5 steroid shots?
Keloids can be treated in various ways. Generally intralesional kenalog/cortisone injection is the treatment of choice, and is often done every 4-6 weeks for 4-8 treatments, but may even need to be repeated in the future as keloids occasionally recur. Adding 5-FU to kenalog can be beneficial in some cases, as can doing liquid nitrogen prior to the injection (especially in lighter skin types). Weight gain will not be a problem with these injections. Best to review your options with your dermatologist.
