I had a FDL tummy tuck 6 months ago. Is this muscle separation?

Gaining weight post-surgery can undoubtedly impede the results of any procedure. It is always advisable to eat healthy, hydrate, and exercise to maintain your new body and results. It can be tempting to rely on the surgery alone; however, patients are advised to make healthy changes in their lifestyle to maintain results. Without an evaluation in person, it is difficult to assess what may have happened. Speak with your surgeon further, or seek other opinions to examine possibilities. Surgery can come with stress, and you are still in the recovery process. Good luck.

I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice.

Without seeing you and examining you it is hard to really weigh in on it....but if you have a bulge in the upper abdomen and your surgeon says you likely tore some of the sutures then you likely do have a recurrence of your DR. The good news is since you have a FDL vertical scar it can be opened and the muscles addressed directly instead of going through your horizontal incision and having to dissect all the way up to the upper abdomen. I would not be afraid...meaning if it is already torn it may get worse just with everyday activities. You cannot let it hold you hostage so to speak. So I would live your life and when it gets to the point that you are tired of dealing with it you can have it repaired....and most likely your surgeon can even take out more skin since it usually tends to loosen up over time. An exam is needed to advise you what is potentially occurring with your abdomen. I encourage you to stay in contact with your surgeon and closely follow all post op instructions. Weight gain can affect your results, but it is doubtful 10 lbs would make a significant difference.
